Prescription drug addiction on the rise…
A must read article in Reuters today about the rise in use and abuse of prescription medications. The core of the problem is high “social acceptance” of using prescription drugs for just about every problem. One expert is quoted…
“What you have among over the counter and prescription drug use is a very low perception of risk,” said Stephen Pasierb, president and chief executive of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, a nonprofit advocacy group.
“There’s very low social disapproval. In fact, there are parents who almost relieved that their kid is using Vicodin and not smoking marijuana,” he said.
Think about it… If we teach our children to treat physical problems with drugs (headache… take an advil, ADHD… take some Ritalin, Allergies… take some Sudafed),
They will eventually learn to escape emotional problems with drugs (depressed… drink some alcohol, stressed… smoke some marajuana, don’t fit in… take some heroin).
Don’t let the the Drug Culture influence your kids! Teach them how special they are. Tell them God created them with the “batteries already included.” The Power they have to draw from on the inside, is greater than any temporary solution the world can offer.
Cell Phones & Brain Cancer…
I’m familiar with the research on this potential risk, and it doesn’t look favorable for cell phones. Studies have shown certain cells of the brain can be genetically altered with prolonged exposure to the electromagnetic fields produced by cell phones. The majority of the research was performed in laboratory settings, not on actual humans (probably why cell phone manufacturers deny the link). However the results do make you think of the possibility of real risk. I love this quote from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute who just recently put out a warning to his faculty and staff warning against the potential dangers of using cell phones:
Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science and he believes people should take action now — especially when it comes to children.
Unfortunately he’s right! Getting beneficial and important science into the mainstream takes a real long time. As with anything these days, you have to keep your ears open and weigh all the risks with the benefits. I’m lucky, my girls are only 4 and 6 and haven’t asked for cell phones yet! Here’s the link to the original MSNBC article.
Less Grey, More Reflux.
That was me back in the day. I’m the guy on the far left with the cheesy smile. Little did I know that around that time, my life would take a turn in a different direction. If you’ve never heard my story, here it is.
In my junior pre-med year at UConn, I began to experience a non-stop, gnawing pain in my gut. The pain at its lowest was bad enough to keep me awake every night and completely kill my appetite. At its worst, all I wanted to do was curl up in bed and die. I started seeing a bunch of doctors. You know the routine, go to one guy, get a drug. Go to another, try a different drug. Go to yet another, get some tests (none of which was helping). They eventually “diagnosed” me with REFLUX but with all their technology, testing and science no one could tell me how I got it or how to get rid of it. Then someone turned me on to Chiropractic…
This new doctor I went to, a chiropractor, wasn’t like the rest. He taught me how my body was smart enough to heal itself and that the drugs the other doctors put me on were just polluting my blood stream. He opened my eyes to a new and more sensible way of healing. Remove the cause Subluxation , and reap the benefits. Long story short, my stomach healed up after the chiropractic adjust-
ments got rid of my nerve stress. The gut wrenching pain stopped when the CAUSE of the problem was finally addressed. Now I have the priviledge of doing the same thing for MY OWN patients!
Chiropractic isn’t complicated, it isn’t artificial and it surely isn’t expensive. If more people knew about the healing POWER they own, and the positive changes that go on inside them after receiving a chiropractic adjustment, they’d be lining up outside our doors. If you know someone suffering with a health problem, will you tell them my story? The DIRECTION of my life changed because of a LIFE RESTOR-
ING Chiropractic ADJUSTMENT. Maybe we can change their lives too!
Until next time, Dr. Rob
P.S. The other guys in the picture are my fraternity brothers Bill and Kevin. Bill, on the far right, was so blown away with my Chiropractic results that he decided to become one too. He practices in Rhode Island. Kevin, on the other hand, became an attorney. Oh well, 2 out of three ain’t bad!
